NB - post copied across from old forum

I went to one of these yesterday with a client. The Dr called us, but when I approached he asked who I was and then requested I wait oiutside. He came to 'get' me and asked my opinion of the client's situation in the hallway. When we finally got to the room he ended the interview without allowing time for questions or for me to check statements. I'm not overly concerned on this particular case as i believe the Dr will be very sympathetic, but there are always the others that aren't so straightforward. Does anyone know if this type of procedure was within guidance or even where I can find guidance so should it happen again I am clear on what the Dr can / can't do?

Leighanne,

contained in the incapacity Benefit handbook For Medical Services Doctors,Section 3, Chapter 11, paragraph 17 it refers:"Collecting the client from the waiting room provides an opportunity for friendly introductions and an initial assessment of their behaviour and appearance. Often the client will feel more confident and secure when accompanied by a relative or friend. Companions may, with the consent of the client, give useful information which contributes to the assessment."

This is contained in the section pertaining to mental health, but I assume it applies generally.I hope that this assists.
