NHS Bursary - IBJSA
Fri 15-May-09 01:15 PM

Cl. on CBJSA - will soon be on IBJSA. Wife has NHS Student Bursary (about £130 p wk). This is ignored for CBJSA. What will happen please when Cl. goes on to IBJSA? I have looked at CPAG but admit to being somewhat confused! It seems as if the bursary will be treated as income, but possibly with some elements ignored. Is this right please?

Yes, see regulation 131(1)(2) and (5) of the JSA Regs.

Hi, pages 70 and 71 of CPAG welfare rights handbook confirms how NHS bursaries are taken into account. (you've not specified if Social Work student).

These bursaries are paid for 52 weeks and will be taken into accountin benefit calculations. The element paid for travelling expenses should be disregarded.

Hope this helps!
