Pension credit disregards- budget changes
Mon 29-Jun-09 11:40 AM

I have seen a couple of articles saying that the changes announced in the budget will generate an extra £4 a week income for pensioners when the disregard increases from £6,000 to £10,000. Are they changing the rules for calcualting tariff income as it would otherwise give them £8 a week or have I missed something ??
Thanks
Angela

I don't think the tariff will change. You're right that £8 is the maximum possible increase but not everyone with savings over £6,000 will have £10,000. I think the £4 figure widely quoted is just a guess at the average gain.

Yes of course that's going to be the case for many - it just had seemed rather an emphatic statement in a few places and made me wonder if I'd missed something !
Thanks
