I have had several clients who are considering taking up apprenticeship schemes with the local authority.

They are 4 days a week with a 5th day at college. Clients currently claim tax credits because they work 16 hours and have children. However there seems to be some doubt as to whether or not they will continue to receive tax credits if they take up the apprenticeship, as the staff on the tax credit helpline cannot decide if it is classed as remunerative work or a training scheme.

Any guidance would be much appreciated.
