Client says she gets 19p ??State Pension?? Anyway whatever pension it is, her CA has been reduced by half of it!! What's all that about?

Very small amounts of SRP are often encountered when married women reach their pension age before husband reaches his - and thus they only have their own NI record to claim on.

No idea re CA reduction at 50% - would suggest you ring CA unit in Preston for their explanation first (if not tried this already!)

I would be interested in the explanation...

Is it that there may be some confusion between Carers Allowance and a carers premium. Because of the overlapping benefit rules it is unusual for both CA and RP to be paid at the same time. Usually RP is higher and if there is entitlement to CA it is not payable but becomes an underlying entitlement, which in turn produces a carers premium for IS, PC, HB & CTB. The carers premium is about half the amount of carers allowance.

Does the pension include some earnings related increase (Graduated Retirement benefit or something)? I think that that bit of pension does not overlap with CA so would not be taken off the CA.
