British gas rebates
Fri 17-Mar-06 10:12 AM

I have just had information on the British Gas Rebates that I want to share. British Gas is offering a Winter Rebate scheme on to their customers receiving certain benefits.

Households buying Gas and / or Electricity from British Gas, where someone in the house is receiving certain benefits are eligible for the following rebates.

Gas £60 a year paid in two instalments
£30 in the last quarter’s bill in 2006 and £30 in the first quarter’s bill in 2007

Electricity £30 a year paid in two instalments
£15 in the last quarter’s bill of 2006 and first quarter’s bill of 2007

Families need to phone 0845 601 2006 and have their British Gas and / or British Gas Electricity account number’s available. Registration is simple and effective for autumn 2006. There is a short registration period so people need to register as soon as possible.

Benefits List for eligibility

Disability Living Allowance
Carers Allowance
Child Tax Credits
Working Tax Credits
Incapacity Benefit
Severe Disability Allowance
Council Tax Benefit
Housing Benefit
Income Support
Income based JSA
Pension Credit
Attendance Allowance
War disablement Allowance
War Pension

Lin

I came across this rebate towards the end of Dec 05 and there was a deadline of 31st December to register for the rebate - does this mean that people can still register? Do you know of anyone who has registered after 1st Jan 06 before I spread the word here?

Thanks

Thanks for that Lin. Although I'm cynical as to why it's not been widely advertised, it's good to hear some good news (even though BG are amongst the dearest as I know to my cost and so have just transferred).

I've just phoned and they've said it's £90 pa if you have 'duel fuel', £40 if you just have lecky (you said £30 so I don't know which is right) and £60 for just gas. They have no leaflets they can send out so I've just emailed from their website and if I get anything more concrete I'll post it.

Any 'Sid' shareholders out there in the WRO community will be getting lower divi's. (all you young uns will have to ask older colleagues)

Cheers
Sue

don't know about 'hissing sid' - wasn't that something else? I'll not get it out of my brain all afternoon now (I had similar last week with the bloody birdy song and it drove me mad). I remember about it being something like 'just ask Sid' which was a bit bizarre anyway when you come to think of it. Anyway back to the amounts - making it up as they go along - how very dare you - as if they would.
We can now only guess at whether it's £30 or £40 and we might never find out unless we can get some promo material or something.

Do you all know as well about the British Gas Energy Trust? They provide grants for people suffering "fuel poverty" as long as they're a customer of British/Scottish Gas, ie, so long as they've been put into fuel poverty by British Gas themselves. The forms are a complete pain, but they have been known to wipe fuel arrears as well as give grants to those suffering extreme hardship. If you google British Gas Energy Trust you'll find it eventually.
