meeting prescription costs for asylum seekers
Tue 04-Jan-05 04:14 PM

not strictly an incapacity related topic, but my psychiatrist is in a dilemma about how to continue to ensure patients prescribed anti-psychotic meds continue to get their prescriptions on discharge from hospital. Are not already registered with a GP (do asylum seekers have a right to do this?)and a current case is challenging her dispersal by NASS when she leaves hospital. how can she a) get a prescription b)get it paid for. Thanks folks, I should know this already!

Could register with a GP as a temporary patient, in order to get prescriptions. Fill in an HC1 form, help with health costs, for a low income certificate. Explain on the form that is an asylum-seeker, etc. and should not have any problems - this is the advice I have been given previously by the Health Benefits Division in Newcastle and non of the asylum-seeker clients I have had have come back to say they have experienced any problems after doing this.
