IB and work
Tue 24-Feb-04 03:32 PM

Client who has been receiving IB for over a year - has been offered 4 weeks work full time so will lose IB. Does she need to re-apply for IB at the end of this job - thereby incurring a delay in receiving money or will they suspend it until the job is finished? She wants to know whether it is worth taking this job or not.

Thanks very much

I believe her claim will end but she will be able to bring it back to life again after 4 weeks because she should betreated as being in the same Period of Incapacity for Work (PIW). However it would be over-optimistic to expect no delay. In any case I should think that a new doctor's certificate would be required and that taking a job for 4 weeks might constitute grounds for a review of your client's award. For all these reasons my instinctive response is not to do it.
