Housing Benefit & contrived tenancies
Thu 29-Apr-04 09:31 AM

Client is 30yr old mentally ill man, who lives with same sex friend in house owned by friend & client's mother. HB is in payment for client's rent after an initial difficulty with the claim - ? re contrived tenancy resolved to HB Dept satisfaction. Client is very vulnerable - medical evidence to support this.
Client & friend now wish to discontinue this housing arrangement. Client's mother may (i) buy out friend's share and become sole owner OR (ii) house may be sold and mother buy smaller house for sole use by her son.
My questions are :
1. Will HB payment be a problem in (i)
2. What would be effect in (ii) on a claim for HB
3. Any advice re how to manage possible changed arrangement

i) no problem, client will have a new landlord

ii) again, should be no problem, change of adress, same landlord

contrivance shouldnt crop up again as the LA appear to be satisfied with existing arrangement
