Pension Credit figure
Wed 28-Mar-07 12:52 PM

Hi could someone help me figure out how the Pension Service come to that figure below? Did they add the savings credit and Guaranted credit? It doesn't add up, sorry today is a bit slow for me, apologise if it is a bit obivous!

"If either you or your partner are aged 65 or over and have modest savings, investments or income – such as a second pension or annuity – you could get extra money. This could be up to £17.88 a week if you are single, or £23.58 a week if you have a partner. This means that you may still qualify for Pension Credit even if your income is up to:

£159 if you are single or
£233 if you have a partner "

The maximum income figures will always be for the SPC alone as it is running out.

For example for a single person with an income of £158 (£1 less than their maximum) you end up with.

£O for GPC as the needs figure is only £114.05.

For SPC though the figures are:

Standard amount 114.05
Qualifying income 158.00

Starting level 84.25
Maximum SPC 17.88 ((158.00 - 84.25) x 0.60)
Tapered reduction - 17.58 (158.00 - 114.05) x 0.40
SPC payable 0.30

I should also say that it can, of course, be affected by having housing costs, disabilities or, potentially, children. These won't increase the maximum SPC but would mean that the SPC runs out at higher income levels than their maxima.

This might help
For 2007/8 if the income exceeds the Appropriate Amount by:
£47.63 - single people
£63.15 - couples

there will be no entitlement to PC.
