DLA renewal approaching pension age
Tue 24-Nov-09 09:54 AM

I have noticed a small batch of cases where clients are being sent review/ renewal forms which coincides with their retirment ages.
Is this normal or fair? I thought the award was based on health and any retrictions would be in anticipation of improvements to health/ disability. Why would they suddenly improve at retirement age?

Because you cannot qualify for lowest rate care, or the obility component, for the first time after reaching the age of 65, unless the need had existed before reaching that date?

And depending on the nature of your disability you may well get better after retirement age. A new knee or two, and your client could be completely rejuvenated.

And, as much as I don't believe this, it gives those the opportunity who may lose out after reaching 65 to have their claim reviewed before the cut-off and, if appropriate, increased by the addition of a mobility component or low rate care component.
