child dependant additions
Thu 26-Feb-04 03:37 PM

we are currently updating our rates cards etc. If you use the usual formula taking into account the increases in child benefit the 'only or first child' works out at £9.40 but if you look in HB /CTB A2 2004 revised updatings its in as £9.55. Has anybody else come across this?

This mystery has now been cleared up.

Formula would have given £9.40 (not) £9.55

Adjustment = £16.50 (ChBen 1st Child) less £11.05 (ChBen others) less £3.50 (adjustment according to SS(OB) regs)= £1.95

So CDIs would be £11.35 less £1.95 = £9.40

However the £3.50 adjustment has been increased to £3.65 by

Reg 8(2) Social Security (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regs

http://www.legislation.hmso.gov.uk/si/si2004/20040565.htm

So the figure remains £9.55

Sorry to be late with this - but everybody should watch out for the CPAG's usual annual uprating sheet, in this context. This otherwise excellent hand-out has not spotted the change and gives the child addition figure as £11.35 reduced by £1.95 for the first child (= £9.40).

The manoeuvre to maintain the figure at £9.55 is no doubt a transitional protection measure for ongoing claims, now that child additions are gone for new ones.
