Terminology from April for PC qualifying age
Tue 02-Mar-10 03:35 PM

As most of you are probably aware the state retirement age for women begins to increase in April which will effect PC, winter fuel payments etc.

I was wondering whether any other organisations were struggling to come up with a term to use in their material to describe the new qualifying age?

The suggestion in our office has been "pension credit qualifying age". This is obviously a bit clumsy though.

e.g. if you are under pension credit qualifying age you may be entitled to jobseekers allowance.

Any thoughts?

Sorry a better example would have been:

e.g. if you are under pension credit qualifying age you may be entitled to income support.

In the housing/council tax benefit regs for this age group the term is "persons who have attained the qualifying age for pension credit", which really trips off the tongue, doesn't it?

My colleague, Clive Martin with his usual facility for the memorable, has coined Kwasp-sea (phonetically) as Qualifying Age for State Pension Credit

Women's State Pension Age is the best we've come up with.

We've settled on "women's pension age" over "pension credit qualifying age".

Tony, I would be wary of using "state retirement age" when referring to PC as state retirement age for men is still 65...

As the thread is only in the context of women I didn't feel the need to qualify it. But thanks anyway.
