maintenence and means tested benefits
Wed 19-May-10 03:28 PM

Hello all

sorry if this has alreday been covered by Rightsnet, but I am an infrequent visitor.

I heard that child maintenence (no matter how much it is) will now be disregared in full for meanss teated benefits such as JSA,IS & IBESA. Also that people that did not previously qualify because maintence (or part of) previously counted as income, may now qualify for these means tested benefits. All sounds a bit too good to be true. Can someone please confirm if this is now the case. If it is, will those who currently receive means tested benefits with deductions for maintence, now have the full amount disregarded meaning an increase in their means tested benefit.

Hello,
You are correct, this ties in with 'Child Maintenance Options'. For a brief news announcement see...

many thanks for your reply. The link worked, no problems.

Nice for a change in benefit rules, to benefit those on benefits rather than benefiting the benefits agency.
