pension credit and student loan
Tue 26-Sep-06 03:44 PM

Hi all you clever bods out there!

scenario:

mr - 69yo
mrs 58

Mrs starting full time university course (good for her!!) is applying for a student loan and will get £3205, and maintenance grant which as far as I can see is ignored for benefit purposes.

My question is - how is the student loan treated for Pension Credit purposes???? I have trawled and trawled but cannot find anything that would help - does anyone have any ideas, and if so page numbers in jolly old thomson sweet and maxwell would be a real bonus!!!

Thanks guys and gals!!

The rules don't include student grants and loans in the definition of "income" - therefore, by default, such income is ignored.

Thank Bob - that was my gut reaction but seemed too good to be true! However, I guess that just as you don't have mobility issues after 65, nor do you need an education later in life ha ha ha!

- what about HB/CTB??

If getting Guarantee Credit have to get Housing Benefit regardless.

If claimant or partner over 60 and not getting IS or IBJSA then student grant or loan ignored as income for HB/CTB
