Widowers Benefits
Thu 04-Nov-04 11:21 AM

Hi all,

I know that in both my experience and all the benefit information I've been able to consult it states quite clearly that any claims for bereavement payment or allowance have to be made within 12 months of the spouse dying.

What I would like to know is if there is any point in pursuing this through the European Courts? I feel, as I have always felt that these arbitrary decisions on time limits for claiming benefits are really unfair, especially with people who have no actual experience of the benefit system. (I know, ignorance is no excuse). However, why are these time constraints placed on benefits? If you have a right then that right should surely be valid forever as long as your circumstances do not change and disbar you.

Well that's me had my monthly gripe. Any suggestions (of a clean nature)will be gratefully accepted.
