DLA and Bipolar Disorder
Mon 18-Jan-10 10:33 AM

My client has been awarded LRC but believes he should get MRC and mobility component. It's been very difficult to get info out of him because according to him he doesn't need any help at all (let alone from me!) and is extremely self sufficient. This is obviously part of the disorder but I'm finding it hard to put anything together for the appeal.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for futher info please

Get a copy of his medical records and see what needs his psych support think he has. If he's seeing a psych they should be reporting to his Gp unless he's on Home treatment, in which case apply direct to the CMHT.

Thanks Dan. I'll write for the records.

I posted today because two docs just didn't seem to grasp about DLA or what was needed as evidence.

I had a letter off his psychiatrist to say he has "Bipolar and can't work".

I'd also clearly explained care needs 'reasonably required' to his GP over the phone but even then didn't seem to understand it as he said "yes but he'll throw carers out"

I was a bit exasperated to say the least.

Ask the psychiatrist for a copy of his care plan.

He should have an enhanced CPA.
This will help immensly, even get the decision changed prior to Tribunal
