2010 Benefit and Pension increases
Mon 21-Sep-09 08:22 AM

Can anyone tell me what the position is regarding the April uprating next year with inflation running at zero. Did the government make a statement saying that Pensions would not go down even if this months figures were zero or deflationary? If so what was the statement, who made it and when? Any info re this appreciated. Thanks

It's the Rossi index that is used, RPI less housing costs. It may be higher than the RPI in current circumstances. I haven't seen any figure yet as it's the September value that's used.

Approaching this from an entirely different angle, one should not forget that there will be a political dimension to any decision affecting Pensioners - they are the biggest block of voters in the Country and ...by sheer coinsidence there is a general election coming up just after April.....that is of course is the way one might think if one was of a cynical disposition...

Yes - my cynical self had thoughts along those lines too. As I recall there was additional WFP offered pre election last time!

I suspect that a number of us might have a vested interest in that we might just be "of that age" as they say - forgetful, absent minded, dribble a bit, drop things etc ......now where was I and why....

Age? Rubbish!

It's the drink; too many NAWRA meetings.
