training for work for people on JSA
Fri 02-Oct-09 06:09 AM

as a follow on from tony's post about incompetence (shawn, if you think this should be in policy or other benefit issues, by all means move it)

A friend of mine is a highly trained cardiology technician who can't get a job due to NHS cutbacks. Of course the DWP has no idea what to do with her, but insisted she attend a course yesterday on how to complete a CV.

this is what she came back and said about it (quoted with her permission):

"Well ... there was absolutely nothing about CVs or interview techniques. It was all about "you must be available for work" blah blah "otherwise we can sanction your benefits" blah blah "there are jobs in the building trade which aren't on the JobCentre website" blah blah "we used to do this as a one to one but the numbers on benefits have tripled ... Read Morein Barnsley" blah blah ... (I'm not in Barnsley and don't come under Barnsley). It was THE biggest waste of time and money that, quite frankly, was of no use to anyone.

My IQ dropped about 80 points just being in the room and listening to it all!"

I advised lots of written complaints to all concerned copy to her MP etc and felt sure one of you would find this example useful for campaigning purposes....
