Employment Service
Thu 19-Feb-04 09:29 PM

I have an Angolan client who has been given 3 years humanitarian leave to remain in UK. He and his wife care for a severely disabled two and half year old son. this child is very big for his age and needs 24 hour care. He has no muscle tone and is absolutley dependant. Father signs for JSA but has been ordered to do 30 hours per week English language course. This leaves mother alone with child and she is unable to lift him. Parents are distraught. They have requested a part time course only but this has been refused.
Any thoughts people ???

I would recommend a claim for DLA for the child, then a claim for carers allowance by the father, then a claim for IS by him.

(Do all 3 claims on the same day if you can manage it!!!!)

That way he will not have to sinn on and his IS will include the disabled child premium and the care premium.
