DLA and Learning 'Difficulties'
Fri 24-Sep-04 02:20 PM

We are currently assisting client with DLA appeal at commissioners. Client has diagnosis of learning 'difficulties' and associated behavioural problems. Appeal is to be heard in front of panel of commissioners given likely effect on many others they are particularly requesting clarification on difference between learning difficulties and learning disabilities. Has anyone had similar query or suggestions for further evidence on this point other than obvious medical person involved that made diagnosis. Thanks

In a previous lifetime when I worked exclusively with people with learning disabilities, as far as me and my colleagues were aware, disabilities and difficulties were merely interchangeable terms.

Incidently, many people with learning disabilities who I met or knew didn't like either of those terms. It was just that they were the least offensive labels.

Berni

I tried to reply to your e-mail but it just bounced back.

Anyway, my best suggestion is that you ask your learning disability team if there are any self advocacy groups in your area. They should be able to help you further.

Regards
Paul
