Reinstating Incapacity Benefit payments regarding a claim in suspended animation
Mon 09-Aug-04 11:05 AM

Basically client had been receiving payments of IB until spring 2001, then does n't pick up new benefit book from post office, so book eventually book goes back to DWP and they loose track of him ie post returned. Claim appears to be live still (as we speak/surf etc) to use DWP vernacular.
Anyway client works for BBC from May to September 2001, but the pressures, stresses excacerbate his Paranoid Schizophrenia symptoms get worse and does his attendance, but because of fear of discrimination and stigma relating to his mental illness he didn't phone in sick etc, he just without a word so no SSP1'S on leaving.
During the intervening period he lived hand to mouth sleeping on floors and living rough until his admission into hospital late July.
Client and ward doctor both feel he was unwell and not well enough to work during the above dates let alone the period after and up to and including the present.
Asked Client why he didn't make contact with DWP office and he explained he felt confused, screwed up and paralysed by his illness eg 'command 'auditory hallucinations. The other factor was he assumed it would have been shutdown anyway.
As claim is ' live ' we want to get payments reinstated from 2001, but need to think around the period when he was working ie may to september albeit spasmodically towards the latter weeks of working for the beeb.

If there is anyone still out there with a brain in working order despite the latest symptom of global warming, could they expend a few brain cells on me please.
