HM Revenue and Customs advisers in Children’s centres
Tue 18-Mar-08 09:46 AM

Quote from para 5.28 Ending child poverty: everybody's business
http://www.hm-treasury.gov.uk/media/3/F/bud08_childpoverty_1310.pdf

"(the government) will also pilot placing HM Revenue and Customs advisers in Children’s centres to help people claim tax credits, in particular providing help with claims for the childcare element of the Working Tax Credit, and keeping their awards up to date."

Anyone know any more about this?

Yes - there's a map which links to a list of Children's Centres in a any particular locality at http://www.surestart.gov.uk/surestartservices/settings/fundedsettings/
- there are 15 Childrens Centres in Tameside and over 2500 nationally.

So how many Tax credit advisers have they got, I wonder? And will they be taken off processing claims etc?

I don't believe it is decided how this is going to work yet or whether the people involved on the ground will be HMRC people or voluntary sector/private contractors.

No doubt we will have a range of pilots.
