Disability Employment Advisory Council
Thu 16-Jul-09 09:39 PM

Has anyone come across the Disability Employment Advisory Council? The organisation is named as one of those whose representative is participating in the "internal review" of the WCA. (Hansard, 24 June 2009).

I have never heard of this organisation, and can't find out anything about them.

Have got this bit of background info, am quoting here directly from their info which reads:

The Disability Employment Advisory Committee (DEAC) is an Advisory Committee that gives independent, informed advice to Ministers and government policy makers about helping disabled people find and keep work. It is a Non Departmental Public Body (NDPB) sponsored by the DWP.
DEAC is not a government department and it's members are not employed by government. They work on a voluntary basis, solely to advise Ministers and government policy makers.

Have also found a website link which might give you a bit more background (not had chance to look at this myself so don't know if it's any good or not).

The website address is: http://research.dwp.gov.uk/ndpb/deac

Hope this helps

John

Thanks for this.

The reason I couldn't find it is that I was searching for a 'Disability Employment Advisory COUNCIL'. I did double-check the Hansard reference and that's what it said.

Anyway, now I know a little about the organisation. However, I do wonder, how independent is an organisation that piggy-backs onto the DWP website rather than having a site of it's own?
