First Commissioner for the Compact appointed

Former Chief Charity Commissioner to take up post later this year

John Stoker, a former Chief Charity Commissioner, Director General of the National Lottery and Chief Executive of the London Bombings Relief Charitable Fund is to become the first Commissioner for the Compact.

NB - The Compact is an agreement that sets out how government and voluntary and community organisations in England work together.

Mr Stoker will take up his new role from 1 October 2006, and will seek to champion the Compact's full implementation across government. In addition, Mr Stoker will work with Ministers, senior government officials, regional funding bodies and chief executives of voluntary and community organisations on how to make the Compact as effective as possible.
