Senior Debt Team Leader (12 Month Contract)

Shelter Barnsley provides a range of consultancy and direct services to agencies and individuals. The advisers supported by the administrative staff, deliver services throughout Barnsley and South Yorkshire. We aim to work in partnership with agencies at a local and regional level to ensure effective access to debt advice across the country.
Shelter are recruiting advisers with skills in areas of social welfare law, so that we can address all clients advice needs.
The ideal candidate will be able to deliver a professional, impartial, pragmatic and outcome focussed advice service to Shelter clients (including 2nd tier advice to other agencies) whilst working to Shelter Quality Standards. Candidates must be qualified or part qualified as self-supervising under the LSC contract.
Each adviser will be expected to be able to perform the following -
- Participate in service rotas.
- Work within the service's operating model conducting detailed diagnostic interviews
- Agree client's needs and identify desired outcomes/actions (within contractual framework)
- Make referrals to solicitor at earliest point in case where clearly certificated work, supporting solicitors on certificated work as required
- Ensure case details are entered onto Shelter's Client Information Case Management system (CICM) accurately and punctually.
- Make representations on behalf of clients to variety of agencies
- Generate letters confirming advice/support
- Attend complex appeal hearings (LA Homelessness Appeals etc) and Court desks (where operative)
- Undertake advice session supervisor responsibilities, including providing, coaching & mentoring support to Advice Assistants and Advisers
- Assist Team Leaders with implementing and monitoring casework to SQM standards.
- Take on most complex cases from Advice Assistants and Advisers.
Please note this is a contract position lasting for a minimum period of 12 months. The salary for this position is set at £25,072 with a generous holiday entitlement of 30 days plus stats (currently 8 per year).
