Lambeth is running a 3 year take up campaign to ensure vulnerable people access to welfare benefits advice. Having secured additional funding in our final year, we are now expanding our service. If you are passionate about maximising income and have excellent skills and experience in welfare benefits work, then one of this could be the job for you.

We are looking for someone with at least one year's recent experience in welfare rights advice, including experience of providing casework. You will also support the campaign through a range of publicity and outreach activities.

We want to recruit 3 motivated benefit advisers to provide high quality benefit to people who have long health problems or disabilities, their carers (including families with ill or disabled children), and to people aged 60 and above. You will be joining an established service partnership employing 13 benefit advisers who have already raised more than £5 million. The campaign is delivered in partnership with local advice agencies and is funded by Lambeth Council and the PCT.

We have opportunities available for advisers in a range of placements within the following agencies: Lambeth Council (Vauxhall), Lambeth Law Centre (Stockwell) and in a local advice agency in Brixton.

Who can apply?

You will have a good working knowledge of Social Security Law, having at least a minimum of one years experience of providing benefit advice. You will need good IT skills. You will be willing to travel to outreach locations, visit service users in their homes when required and be able to provide excellent telephone advice.

Ideally you will have had an enhanced CRB check within the last 12 months, if you do not have a recent CRB check you must be willing to apply for one. These posts are exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. A satisfactory disclosure is required in the event of a successful application due to the nature of the duties involved.
