Are you interested in working as one of our dedicated team of Benefits Advisers in the Benefits, CLS & ILF Service which is part of the Adults Health and Community Wellbeing Directorate?

Your duties will include: contributing to the provision of the team’s specialist welfare benefits services to Essex County Council staff and other external agencies, specialist benefits advice, assistance, joint casework, representation, liaison, training, project and benefit take-up work.

You will need to be educated to degree level or equivalent, with knowledge and experience of welfare benefits work and, in particular, recent experience in one or more of the following areas - provision of welfare benefits advice, casework and representation; production of benefits information; delivery of welfare benefits training.

Valid driving licence and car, or access to a car and driver, or willingness to travel to different locations using public transport is essential.

Successful candidates will be referred for an enhanced Criminal Records disclosure and must obtain a satisfactory CRB Certificate.

The Benefits, CLS & ILF Service is currently conducting a review of the work it performs to better reflect the changing direction of social care services in the future and its focus on prevention. This part–time Benefits Adviser post is a permanent position which is needed to maintain our existing services. The outcome of the review may generate an opportunity to increase the hours of the post to full-time, subject to agreement with the successful candidate.
