Temporary Welfare Rights Officer - Kinship Family Support

Organisation: Nottinghamshire County Council
37 hours per week. £24,402 - £28,353 p.a.
Location: Nottingham
Deadline: 15/07/2009

This innovative new post, initially funded for two years, will work closely with the Children and Young People's Service social work teams. Kinship care is provided by wider family members, often grandparents, or family friends, when a child cannot live permanently with their birth parent.

The post holder will provide advice on benefit entitlement, income maximisation and tribunal representation for kinship carers in Nottinghamshire. They will also attend promotion events, plus provide training and consultancy on carer's benefits for relevant social care staff.

You will have a minimum of two year's recent welfare rights experience, a good working knowledge of social security law, especially disability benefits; have a full driving license, be enthusiastic and able to meet targets; an ability to deliver training; a commitment to social justice and an understanding of the issues relating to families under stress.

Some knowledge of the care system and the issues faced by 'looked after' children would be helpful.
