Waitaminnit - the government has always bragged loudly about how brilliant a success the Work Programme has been.

But this little announcement is surely an admission that ‘parking and creaming’ (pardon???) goes on and that providers have got to be stopped from doing it - but they will have a further year-and-a-bit to carry on doing just that.

‘Realistically we can’t afford to be sending tens of thousands of people on to the programme for the course of its life and have them not doing anything. That’s just not something that is an acceptable outcome.’

Well. Yes. An astounding admission. Tens of thousands. Not found jobs or helped to improve skills - just left to do nothing, with providers filling their own pockets meanwhile.

And what happens after 31/3/17 and before the new all-singing all-dancing wonder-programme kicks in????

Interesting.

Yes Andrew I agree - strangely silent on what happens in the 6 - 9 month interim when there is no programme…
