Payments to service users
I have been contacted by an NHS Trust that is setting up a patient and public involvement project, and is considering payment to participants. They are aware that such payments may have implications for benefit recipients.
I am loathe to reinvent the wheel, so, are there any colleagues who have any up-to-date leaflets on payments to service users that they would be willing to share?
Thank you.
Ruth hi
I have assisted a great many organisations to develop policy and practice for payments to service users. If you have a look at my website you will see a list of my customers. These include large health and social care organisations and charities. You would need to ask their permission to use their materials for free and my agreement also under copyright law.
The aim is to ensure people who agree to help through their involvement do not inadvertently put their benefits at risk. The organisation must adopt measures to assist service users. It is not sufficient to give the service user some leaflets.
I have found that organisations prefer to develop their own versions of policy and practice, although the basis is similar. Have a look at the last page of my website for an explanation.
