My client has just been awarded PIP Enhanced Care. He has been on the assessment phase of ESA since July 2015 and is shortly about to have ESA medical Assessment. Would he be eligible for the Severe Disability Premium on his ESA assessment phase or does he have to wait until after the award decision? Many thanks

Both the Severe Disability Premium and Enhanced Disability Premium should be included in his ESA (income related) from the benefit week in which the PIP award commences

He can get SDP during the assessment phase, as well as the enhanced disability premium. If he is on contribution based ESA, he’ll have to apply for an income based top up.
