Hello,

Wondering if anyone has any guidance in terms of ESA for this couple:

I am assisting a 19 year old who is currently undergoing cancer treatment and in receipt of ir-ESA SG and PIP (enhanced rates of both). He is currently living with his Mum.

He has just been offered a flat with his girlfriend by a housing association. She is 17 and in receipt of income support on the basis of being estranged from her parents and undertaking ‘relevant education’. Her course is continuing for another academic year.

I am wondering if her student status will prevent couple-rate ESA being paid to them? They have no children.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance.
