My man is appealing his ESA WCA decision, but has been happily signing on in the meantime.

All was well, until he receives a bundle of letters telling him he’s not going to get JSA any more, as he’s being moved to ESA while he appeals.  By the way, you won’t be paid until you get a sick note (no dates given) and your Housing Benefit has stopped, too.

‘But I want to stay on Jobseeker’s’ says the man.

‘We always do it like this’ say the DWP.

‘Please let him stay on Jobseeker’s’ says I.  ‘It seems only fair to let him choose to claim what he wants.’

Now, I’ve advised one or two people about ESA in my time, and up to now they haven’t had this.  Some of them liked being on Jobseeker’s, as they got more money, or help, or whatever.  Perhaps others couldn’t get a sick note any more, anyway.

Is this happening a lot now?
