Incorrect PIP decision letters

We have come across a couple of PIP decision letters that on pages 1 and 6 give a different award to the points scored on pages 2 and 3.

We know that the points scored on pages 2 and 3 are correct as in one of these cases the decision letter was issued after we had represented the person at a tribunal hearing. In that particular case the payments being made reflect the tribunal decision and the points scored at pages 2 and 3. However in another case the payments were incorrect and it took a few weeks to get them corrected.

Of course incorrect decision letters could also cause problems for other benefits and services such as blue badges.

I have asked our DWP liaison person to look into this and I am aware that similar incorrect letters have also been noticed by Leeds Welfare Rights Unit, but is this problem occurring in other parts of the country and does anyone know why?

Have seen this occur once in Bristol but at claim rather than appeal stage.

In the reasoning it suggested an award (8 points) and in the activity/descriptor breakdown it only indicated 4 pts. When MR decision issued they upheld original decision and stated that reasoning incorrect. No appeal papers as yet.

The PIP notification process seems to be in complete disarray. My client requested an MR (unsuccessful), subsequent appeal at which point he got another decision letter stating his award has been increased.

He withdrew the appeal only to receive (a few weeks later) an appeal pack.

I contacted DWP who were adamant that the client had not been issued any decision since his MR. They also confirmed he was on the standard rate.

Client called DWP as he hadn’t been paid (at all). Payment received two days later at the higher rate. Motability also seem to have been informed that he is now iro the enhanced rate.

Despite all this, the DWP are still adamant they have not made a new decision.
