We’ve had a lady contact us and played us a message purporting to be from HMRC, left on her answer machine saying, simply, that they are going to prosecute her for fraud and to “press 1 to speak to a case worker”.  My colleague thinks that this could be a scam.  Anyone else come across this?

Sort of thing they’d do though isn’t it? Which, I suppose, is what makes it an unusually clever scam.

I’ve just had a client report that this has happened to them. HMRC wouldn’t even speak to me without security checks, so glad to have found the answer here.
