Been trying to find some statistics on appeals - success rate represented vs unrepresented/paper hearings.  Can’t find anything recent on gov.uk or HMCTS. Any ideas?

I know when we wanted those in Bristol we ended up doing an FOI request - I don’t think they routinely publish them - but it does mean you can ask for what you want and have them broken down geographical area or whatever else you want

once upon a time the old Appeals Service used to publish outcomes by representation in the quaterly stats but stopped publishing them when AS became part of HMCTS. But they do still collect the stats.

you can email your request to the MoJ - .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) - they can produce specific stats as long as they are recorded on HMCTS GAPS (or what ever they use now) IT system. You will need to be clear about what you want (from experience - terminology is everthing) including the period for which you want the stats (last quarter, last 4 quaters etc).

We havn’t made such a request for a few years but used to do it routinely every year. The do (did) collect details of outcome by represented and unrepresented cases and can also break this down by benefit. Bear in mind that anybody recorded as a representative included partner / family / friend will show as a represented case. They cannot break it down by particular catagories of representative.

Also note, for example, they cannot break down the stats for a particular tribunal venue into specifc geographical areas within that which the venue covers, for example, specific postcodes or LA area.
