smi exemption where client joint owner
client joint owner and lives with him and dad (who own the other half). no means tested benefit due as has over £16k in savings but could be smi as meets criteria and has a qualifying benefit.
what would happen of he gets smi. are his parents still liable for the full amount of council tax? im thinking yes but its failrly unusual so thought i would double check.

Yes, unless one of the parents is a “carer” for him and can get a discount.

for some strange reason you need high care for the carers status exemption in scotland.
