If client switches to Income-related ESA from Income support will they have to wait the waiting period for mortgage interest relief again?

Hi

The client’s husband is currently claiming Income Support, which includes mortgage interest relief.  The client’s husband is a carer.  The client is claiming contribution-related ESA but no income-related ESA.  My calculations show that if the client’s husband withdraws his income support claim and the client claims income-related ESA the couple will be better off.

However, will they have to wait the mortgage interest relief waiting period again if they do this?

Thanks

Don’t think so -see old CPAG (2015/2016) pages 468 (“couples and former couples”) and469- top bullet point “your partner was receiving….IS…”
