Some member organisations of Disability Benefits Consortium (DBC) have raised concerns over the posters, adverts and notification letters going out to DLA claimants regarding the changeover to PIP.  This came about following a PIP Improvements Working group where the materials were shared with those in attendance.  In all of these communications the message is: ”DLA is ending, you need to decide if you want to claim PIP.”

Participants at the meeting had tried to explain that this language is unhelpful, as so many people will not be able to make an informed choice. And we know that 3 out of 4 DLA claimants will have a PIP entitlement, which is not reflected in any way in the communications. There are also issues around alternative channels to make a PIP claim which are not being promoted or do not exist for some groups.

To this end DBC have secured a meeting with Helen Race, Senior Communications Manager who is responsible for these PIP communications. The meeting will be provisionally held on 17th September (time tbc). The meeting is for DBC members so if you want to attend, get in touch with Rosanna at LCD.

In addition to this, Helen has asked me to ask members if they would like to take part in providing feedback on their pilot of the campaign materials they are using to inform people on the changes to DLA. If you would like to be involved, please email Helen by the end of today, Friday 28 August, on HELEN.RACE[AT]DWP.GSI.GOV.UK - they are particularly looking for advisers working in Manchester and Liverpool at the moment.
