Afternoon all,

We have 2 clients who were a couple but have separated. They are joint claim JSA Income Related. One member of the former couple will stay in Glasgow (a gateway Universal Credit area) and the other is to move to London (we presume to an LA that is also a gateway area; we don’t actually know which LA).

Most of the office think that the person moving to London will have to claim Universal Credit if the person staying in Glasgow reports the change of circumstances as the Glasgow resident’s joint claim JSA will change to a single claim JSA. But is this right or is there any kind of Transitional Protection that allows the person moving to London to claim JSA even if it is a gateway area for UC?

I think most parts of London will be UC-free until the autumn at least.
