This House of Commons Library briefing paper provides information on social landlords’ discretion not to offer a ‘lifetime’ tenancy to new tenants after 1 April 2012. The paper goes on to explain provisions contained in the Housing and Planning Act 2016 which will, when in force, provide that local authorities will only be able to offer longer-term tenancies in certain circumstances.
