A worker claims JSA, fails GPOW and goes abroad for a year.  On return immediately able to claim JSA for 3 months and then subject again to GPOW. . What about the following year-long gaps?
(a) Working for a year - does this leave her/him retaining worker status and claiming JSA - for how long before GPOW?  6 months?
(b) Self-employed for a year - does GPOW kick in immediately?
(c) Caring responsibilities for a year - does GPOW kick in immediately?

Obviously someone who has worked for a year or was self-employed has a reasonable chance of establishing genuine prospects of work, but it is an additional barrier.

What does anyone think of the above scenarios?
