I was asked the question regarding eligibility criteria for a DFG and receipt of UC as a qualifying benefit. Has anybody got any experience of this ?

Cheers

Page 202 of the Disability Rights Handbook, on calculating DFGs, says “If the relevant person receives…. universal credit… the applicable amount is automatically £1 and all their income and capital are disregarded, giving a zero contribution”. There is no mention (in the Disability Rights Handbook) or any additional criteria or income cap for UC claimants, but you may want to check the Regs to be sure.

That’s the situation as we understand it.  It’s largely due to a unwillingness to change the regs while responsibility for the scheme is moved between Whitehall departments, I suspect.  I wouldn’t expect this situation to continue long term.

Thanks for this. I didn’t know whether there had been a change.
