A few months ago, the search mechanism changed on Bailii. Since that change, I have found it is better to go instantly to "Advanced Search".
In the "Enter your query" field, the best way tends to be using muiltiple words, using "and" as the linking mechanism. Also, by enclosing a specific "string", that will further narrow the search.
For example, to find the CA judgement for "White", try:
"white and stratford and "housing benefit""
That gives about 49 "hits". But most of those aren't case citations, so you just end up looking at the remainder. So long as you know that cases going to the next court aren't always with the same lead party, it soon becomes apparent which case is the relevant case.
In "White", it became known as "Addy", but it still appears, albeit at about hit number 45. If you prioritise by date, most CA cases occur within 3 years of the HC case, so will tend to be nearby in the listings.
