LHA payment
Tue 20-May-08 01:11 PM

hello all from those of us new to LHA.

I understand that LHA has to be paid to the tennent rather than the option to go direct to landlord which was available with HB. Is there anyway the tennant can get a payment made to a third party so they can pay the tennant's rent to the landlord (third party being someone not living in the property claimed for). For example someone wanting their mother, brother or friend to deal with payment of rent, because they feel they are not very good at dealing with their finances, but not being significantly bad enough to come under power of attononey rules.

Yes, LAs have the discretion to pay someone other than the claimant where the competent claimant requests them to do so. Reg 94.
As long, of course, as that 3rd party is NOT the landlord.
