Child Care

Seen two in the last week causing huge overpayments?

Parent (single) on WTC with high child care charges included in award.

They stop working under 16 hours for a short period keeping the child care on as they will be returning to work at over 16 hours in a few weeks.

The changes to WTC allow a four week or less gap in the 16 hours and the on-going award continues.

But has HB & CTB been changed to mirror this change as both have had their HB & CTB re-calculated as if they are not working so no earnings diregard and no child care costs allowed, result lots of income used in the calculations from WTC so no HB & CTB due.

Do you have to actually be working 16 hours every week to get these allownaces included in the HB & CTB.

Where hours fluctuate then an "average" can be used. Reg 6(5) also allows people to be treated as in remeunerateive work when absent when "the absence is either without good cause or by reason of a recognised, customary or other holliday"
