funnily enough this came up once before in this discussion thread so you could just scroll down to find your answer.
I believe the answer we finally decided on is that it is taken into account as grant income, but is subject to special rules and disregards. For example, a fixed sum may be disregarded for books and equipment, as well as travell expenses.
My figures are a bit out of date but I think it comes to about £650
