Temporary absence from home due to essential repairs
Tue 06-Nov-07 10:59 AM

Hi

I wonder if anyone can give some help on this query please.

We have a client who owns his home and receives Income Support housing costs. His flat is in a property which is mainly owned by a Housing Association and they have now decanted him into a temporary rented property while essential repairs are carried out and have told him that he must pay rent.

Having checked the regulations, is it possible to receive housing costs for one property while receiving housing benefit for another? If he is treated as occupying his original home to continue to receive housing costs, can he also be treated as occupying his temporary home to receive housing benefit?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Sorry, but this isn't what you will want to hear.

HB definitely cannot be paid in respect of the temporary home - HBR 7(4) prevents such payments.
