Home Loss Payments

I would be interested to see how your operating Local Authority treat home loss payments in calculating capital for HB purposes . Home loss payments are now £4,400

I have always advised this will be disregarded as it normally would be swollowed up by refurbishing costs of their newe home ? but i spoke to a lady on a seminar i went to recently who stated she had come across LA who do treat it Capital in full for HB assessment purposes .

look forward to your replies

I must admit that I am not an expert in the home loss scheme, but looking at it as compensation, it would count as capital and I have not been able to find a specific disregard for it so, unless I have missed something, it would not automatically be disregarded.

However, if it formed part of the funds intended for the purchase of a new home, it would be disrearded for 52 weeks.
